Special Day
on pan-European Co-operation and Technology Transfer
Zakopane, Poland, 28 August 1996
OMI is one of the domains within the ESPRIT programme of the European
Union for research and technological development in Information
Technologies.
It is a so called "focused cluster", not targeted to
any one technology but gathering the best of information technology,
developed both within ESPRIT and elsewhere, to provide Europe
with a clear capability in embedded microprocessor technology.
Developments within OMI can be found in areas such as on-chip
integration of modular integrated circuits, development of interoperability
standards, both hardware and software, aplication of dedicated
high-performance microprocessors, e.g. in the area of digital
signal processing and issues related to hardware/software codesign.
The presentation wil give an overview of the domain of OMI, dealing
both with organisational and technological issues and will present
some significant results obtained through OMI.
It will also briefly explore the ways in which technology transfer
from OMI can reach Central and Eastern European countries, either
through participation in OMI projects or otherwise.
