Objectives of the panel

• To discuss the state of development of microprocessor based technologies in Central and Eastern Europe,
• To identify the most promising domains for collaborative projects, and the main obstacles,
• To make the first assessment of the potential interest and market for the OMI technology there,
• To present shortly the objectives, possibilities, and results of the BENEFIT project.

The panel will seek answers to the following questions:

on CEE industry:

- How far is developed the microprocessor industry in CEE countries?,

- Which components are being produced locally?

- What processors are produced/applied?

- What about software development industry?

- What system applications are dominating in designs done?

- Is embedded system technology used on a wider scale, and in which

applications?

- Estimation of a number of complex system engineering tasks per year

The panel will seek answers to the following questions:

on design methodologies:

- What system engineering technologies (methodologies, tools) are being used in CEE?

- Is open systems technology feasible?

- Is reusability a wide spread technology, what about software portability?

- Is VHDL an accepted design and prototyping language?

- Is there interest in OMI standards?
